The Platte River Arch over I80 at Kearney, NE. The sun was directly in our faces so it was hard to get a picture. This is a tourist trap. We didn't go to it, but you can tell.
(5255 miles driven) This morning we got up and left the defective Ramada Inn at 8:00am. We stopped at the first rest stop in Iowa to see what information they had on train sites in the state. We then headed for Council Bluffs to see General Dodge's house (a union general and builder of the Union Pacific portion of the Transcontinental Railroad). However they wanted $7.00 each for a guided tour. We didn’t want to spend the time on a guided tour or pay $7.00 to see a Union General's house! We then continued our trip across Iowa stopping at 4:30pm in Bettendorf, IA at the Isle of Capri casino where we have an excellent room overlooking the train tracks and the Mississippi River. Tomorrow we are going to try and find a train hot spot in Galesville, IL and then continue our trip home.
