This was the exciting scenery for most of the eight hour drive. We saw a lot of "bear bait" signs and quite a few deer carcasses.
(1638 miles driven) We were up and underway early, 7:05am. There was a minimum backup at customs. Then we were on our way across the Michigan Peninsula. This drive makes I85 going to Atlanta look exciting! We arrived in downtown Duluth, MN around 2:50pm (3:50pm edt), just in time to see the North Shore Scenic Railway train leave the station. I purchased tickes for the 12:30pm train tomorrow and tickets to the musuem. We then went to the hotel we had selected. But that was in an industrial area. So we decied to spend the extra money and move to an area closer to downtown. It was a good decision. The hotel is right next to the ore ship channel coming into Duluth and next to a lift bridge. It is also just a short walk to a lot of restaurants and shops. Tomorrow is another train ride and then we will move farther west. Stopping place is at this time unkown.
