This is the road to the museum in Durand, MI. Very straight and very flat. It didn't have a curve in it for the ten to twelve miles we were on it.
(1050 miles driven) Today we got underway around 8:15 after spending the night in a not too good hotel room. Our goal today was to get to the east coast of Michigan above the thumb and drive around the coast to Mackinaw. We hit our first few sprinkles in Ohio around Toledo. After stopping at a welcome center in Michigan, I discovered the Michigan Railroad History Museum was located just off US23 which we were using to go north. So a side trip was in order. After the visit to the museum and lunch we headed for the east coast. We drove for about an hour along the coast and then decided to go back to the interstate and head for Mackinaw. While on the coast road we ran into our first real rain that lasted until we stopped for the night. We ended up stopping in Gaylord. This time in what should be much better accommodations.
